Committee to Support the Press Receives Complaints

The President of the Journalists’ Association Isa al-Shaiji presided over the first meeting for the Committee to Support the Bahraini Press, since its establishment in May 2010. The Committee is concerned with the defence of the freedom of press, dissemination of the culture of press freedom and accountability inside the press and the media. It also aims at spreading social awareness regarding the importance of the media and its role in developing a democratic society, and campaigning for the right of the media and press to access and publish information. A sub-committee has been established to deal with complaints from all citizens and institutions, in order to mediate in solving problems that might occur between the media and society. The mission of the Committee is limited to Bahraini citizens’ complaints regarding journalists’ professional performance.
