MPs: HR Societies have the Right to Visit the Prisons
On 21 October 2009, the Committee for Foreign Affairs, Defence
and Security in the Parliament affirmed the need to allow registered
human rights societies to visit rehabilitation centres in order
to monitor the conditions of the inmates after obtaining the necessary
permits. This affirmation came during a meeting the Committee held
with representatives of Ministry of Interior to discuss the reform
and rehabilitation bill. On the other hand, the Committee has reached
a decision regarding the death penalty, specifically the removal
of the sentence ‘execution by firing squad’ mentioned in the bill.
